the community

The student-parent community is small and friendly, one that is mutually respectful, supportive and non-competitive.

Through the study of classical piano, where trust is eventually build up over time between student and teacher, students develop their own unique personalities and expressive capabilities at the piano.

Pamela's wish is for her students to derive enthusiasm from musical exploration, to listen with empathy, to play sincerely and thoughtfully, and to be discerning, discriminating, and independent in the long run.

She is cognizant of the fact that students all develop individually and at different paces.

Pamela is very interested in the development of musical potential and talent. She recognises that there is a spectrum of what constitutes musical talent and aptitude, across music students.

piano lessons

Individual private piano lessons are meant to help students develop music appreciation, listening awareness, pianistic abilities, and sight-reading skills.

In a spacious and beautiful studio, students get to play on grand pianos from the finest lineage of German piano manufacturers, under the guidance of an experienced and qualified teacher.

If they wish and demonstrate readiness and sufficient competency, students may enroll in ABRSM exams and diplomas. However, this is certainly not the goal of lessons.

There is a strong emphasis on developing technique, so that musical possibilities can be realised at the piano. Repertoire is assigned responsibly and with older mature students, there is plenty of discussion so that they have a stake in what they wish to play.

Lessons take place in the context of a learner-centric environment, with much emphasis on self-awareness, the incorporation of healthy and conscientious practising habits.

regular performances

Group performances are held quarterly and the students have performed at Library@Esplanade,

the National Library at Bugis, and other venues. Guest performers on the cello, flute and violin, have greatly enriched these recitals as well, by adding a different dimension beyond solo piano works.

Performances are a highlight for students and parents. Apart from being a social event and showcase, these opportunities serve to boost self-confidence and engender a sense of sharing and mutual appreciation within the community.

For the less experienced students, the in-house group performances are yet another avenue to perform their pieces in a safe, friendly, and non-threatening space.

For the more advanced students, these performances often challenge and motivate them to refine their playing even further.

Our Dec '24 concert edition was titled

"A Musical Odyssey".

In the spirit of December’s celebratory atmosphere, piano students ages 6 to 14 from Musical Dialogues, will be presenting a range of pieces with a spotlight on French, German, and Austrian composers. There will be dance-inspired pieces such as Chaminade’s theatrical “Pierrette” and Debussy’s second Arabesque, memorable for its beautiful gossamer writing. Come and savour familiar favourites like “The Blue Danube” and “The Entertainer”.  Evoking recollections of childhood will be Mozart’s 12 variations on “Ah vous dirai-je, Maman”, colloquially known as twinkle, twinkle little star, and other pieces connected to famous fairytales. The concert will end with the first movement of Faure’s hypnotic piano trio in D minor written almost a 100 years ago, with two talented guest performers on the violin and cello.

student achievements

Some students actively participate in competitions and festivals. Recent achievements include one student clinching the

2025 Golden Lion Award, the highest honour awarded to 3 out of nearly 700 students from different instruments and

age categories. Another 11 year old student was given the Gold Award in her age category (7 out of 60 participants).

One of the students aforementioned was also a finalist at the 2024 Piano Island Festival competition where she performed the first movement of Mozart K330.

Several students have also been honoured as the most outstanding top-scoring MEP students of their cohorts, at Raffles Institution and Dunman High. Another teenage student was awarded an academic and music scholarship by Marlborough, a UK boarding school.

While the focus is not on piano exams and students do not regularly enrol in exams, Musical Dialogues has a 85% ABRSM distinction rate (the rest being merit), with the average student attaining Grade 5 at age 9 and Grade 8 by age 12. The highest score is 142/150

for Grade 8 by an 11 year old girl who started as a beginner at Musical Dialogues when she was 7.
